Bratislava Bans Casinos and Arcades

The Bratislava Municipal Assembly has approved a regulation prohibiting gaming activities across the entire city, encompassing casinos and amusement centers.

The Bratislava Municipal Assembly voted in favor of a proposition to prohibit specific forms of gaming in the Slovakian capital.

The newly enacted prohibition will prevent casinos from operating within Bratislava, and all other varieties of arcades will also be closed.

Nevertheless, bingo halls will be permitted to continue their operations, and betting shops along with other forms of in-person wagering will also be allowed.

The prohibition will not become effective immediately, as the Municipal Assembly is granting all licensed operators the right to continue offering gaming services until their licenses expire. The Municipal Assembly will not accept any new license applications and will not permit operators to renew existing licenses.

The majority of operators’ licenses are valid until 2023 or 2024, implying that the prohibition will not be felt for at least two years.

The prohibition was issued following the Municipal Assembly’s receipt of a petition signed by over 70,000 Bratislava inhabitants in September, demanding a ban on gaming in the city.

“The Municipal Assembly has taken every possible step to ensure that the will of the people expressed in the petition is fulfilled,” it stated in reference to the subsequent prohibition.
