Adelaide Sky City will cease operations, the managing company is reorganizing its executive team
Chief Executive Graeme Stephens will retire on November 30, but will remain to assist newly appointed Michael Ahearn before his departure.

Ahearn, who is being elevated from his current position as Chief Operating Officer, will assume the role of CEO on November 16.

The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Rob Hamilton, has submitted his resignation and will depart on February 26, 2021, while Lisa McNally has also resigned from her position as Chief Marketing Officer and will leave on March 31 of next year.

The Sky City board is currently collaborating with Michael Ahearn to establish the company’s management framework.

“It is gratifying that Sky City has such capable internal candidates to fill the CEO position,” stated Sky City Chairman Rob Campbell.

“Michael is currently Sky City’s Chief Operating Officer, a role in which he has successfully overseen Sky City’s operations in New Zealand and Australia since December 2017, and launched Sky City Online Casino in August 2019.”

His broad international gaming expertise, encompassing both physical and virtual gambling establishments, will be essential in assisting the company to enter a new stage of progress.

SkyCity declared that it would be shutting down its Adelaide casino and entertainment center starting at midnight on November 19, due to the South Australian government’s announcement that the state would be entering a period of isolation again.

The operator anticipates the casino to be closed for six days, until midnight on November 24, 2020, as the government mandated that venues close once more in response to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

The casino’s expansion project, which includes a 120-room lodging facility, was initially planned to open in late November, but the opening has been postponed due to limitations.

The establishment reopened on June 30 after being closed for several months due to Covid-19 restrictions being eased in Adelaide.

September results indicated that SkyCity’s income increased by 36.8% in the 2020 fiscal year to NZ$1.13 billion (£572.6 million/€643.6 million/$760.7 million), as insurance payments from the 2019 fire offset typical revenue declines caused by the pandemic.

SkyCity Adelaide’s revenue was A$121 million, down 18.7%. Machine gaming revenue decreased 25.6% to A$38.3 million, table game revenue dropped 26.5% to A$56.9 million, but non-gaming revenue increased 30.3% to A$25.8 million.
