Ukraine Bans Fifth 1xBet Website

The Ukrainian gambling and lottery oversight body (KRAIL) has taken down a fifth website operating under the 1xBet name in the nation.

The website’s closure followed KRAIL’s discovery that it was organizing gambling operations under the 1xBet banner. The firm responded by blocking access to the website from Ukrainian IP addresses after the regulator demanded the termination of illicit activities.

1xBet has been prohibited in Ukraine since September 7, 2022, when KRAIL revoked the license of its parent company, TBK LLC. The regulator stated this was due to the State Security Service providing KRAIL with information revealing inaccuracies in TBK’s documents.

Specifically, these documents included a section where the company needed to demonstrate that “relevant companies do not represent the interests of foreign individuals who are engaging in armed aggression against Ukraine, and/or whose actions result in war conflict and the use of force against Ukraine.”

1xBet has previously sparked controversy in Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.

On the sixteenth of August, in the year twenty-twenty-two, the Ukrainian leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, provided a response to a request from the public. This petition, which had gathered over twenty-six thousand signatures the day prior, called for the prohibition of a certain company’s activities within Ukraine.

The current state of affairs concerning this particular company, and the part played by regulatory entities in the discussion, has sparked significant disagreement within Ukraine.

The acting head, Olena Vodolazhko, defended the agency’s actions in a conversation with the Ukrainian National News Agency on the twenty-ninth of September.

“Our objective is not to remain silent, but to be effective. This is why we only made a public appeal once during the examination, to prevent any manipulation. We reached out to several oversight bodies—the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Security Service, and the State Financial Monitoring Service.

“Due to this collaboration, we were able to uncover what the licensee had been concealing. Consequently, after receiving written confirmation from the Economic Security Bureau, we promptly made the decision to withdraw the license.”
