Pennsylvania Gaming Revenue Sees 7.9% Yearly Increase in September

The Keystone State’s overall gaming income in September experienced a 7.9% yearly increase, fueled by robust expansion in sports wagering earnings.

The state’s total gaming earnings hit $448.5 million in September, a climb from $415.7 million in September of the previous year, and also a 5.4% rise from $425.4 million in August.

While slot machines remain the primary revenue source for Pennsylvania’s gaming operators, income in this sector dipped 0.2% to $198.5 million. Earnings from physical table games also experienced a 2.9% decrease to $81.6 million.

However, these declines were balanced by growth in other gaming sectors, particularly sports betting, which saw revenue leap from $28.3 million in 2021 to $50.2 million this year.

Of that, $43 million stemmed from online wagering, while the remaining $7.3 million originated from physical sports betting. Sports betting activity also saw a 11.5% year-over-year increase to $645.2 million.

Valley Forge Casino Resort and FanDuel led the sports betting market in September, generating $22.7 million in revenue from $213 million in wagers. Hollywood Casino Meadows and Barstool came in second, generating $11.3 million in revenue from $207.5 million in wagers, followed by Hollywood Casino Penn National, DraftKings’ partner, which generated $3 million in revenue.

A $1,000,000 profit was produced from a $41.1 million wager.

In other areas, online casino-style games saw earnings reach $112.7 million, a 15.2% increase from last year’s $97.8 million. In this area, online slots earnings increased 13.6% to $77.9 million, while internet betting table games earnings rose 22.2% to $32.2 million, but internet poker earnings dropped 9.1% to $2.7 million.

Pennsylvania’s state casinos were ranked first in the online gambling market with earnings of $48.6 million, ahead of Philadelphia’s Rivers Casino at $26.2 million, followed by the Valley Forge Casino Resort at $19.6 million.

In the meantime, video gaming terminal earnings also increased by 2.7% to $3.5 million, but the state’s fantasy sports contests continued to decrease, with earnings falling 41.3% to $1.9 million for the month.
